On leading a service
In all things remember the difference between primary church and established church.
Think about some of the issues we face when a service “hasn’t gone right”?
How it feels and why did it happen like that?
Why did somebody do that? Why when they are leading does it always happen?
What about the prophetic? Why did we lose the service flow?
How did that person get hold of the mic during the service?
Why during some services do people not come?
Why during holiday weekends do people not come to church while some churches seem to over flow due to holiday programs they are running and be full of people on holiday.
Another big question is “what if we run 2 services”? How do we keep the flow and quality?
Here is a full run sheet template we have used often:

The red section is our pre service preparation creating an environment for people to gather and arrive creating a sense of anticipation. Kept at a quiet level people may need this time to “unwind” from the week and catch up with the person sitting next to them.
The green section is an informal call to gather and settle but also to lift the name of God with celebration. Again this is usually an uplifting song of declaration. Focusing our attention now on and upwards.
The Blue section represents our “family time” during each service.
This is our “talking/information bit” where we can bless people, welcome and take care of our family business such as announcements and birthdays/celebration. We really champion the “family” aspect of our church since we have all gathered together. It’s here that we really welcome visitors and new folk in conjunction with what our hosts have been doing before the service. Its full of life, faith and hope and a short devotion in keeping with the theme or scripture reading. This transition is crucial to prepare an environment of faith and transition into worship or communion then onto the message which is where the “teaching/preaching” needs to happen and if the family time and worship have flowed people will be feeling connected and warm with open hearts ready to hear the word and be challenged no matter if they are a believer or not. The message will be received at different levels depending on where they are.
The green section is a worship time and white teaching and ministry.
In finishing off let me say this: With growth comes capacity. With structure comes security.
Thinking about the areas we are in maintenance mode right now? They won’t be for long.
